Measuring a cylinder lock – how to always choose the right size

We have for any door thickness proper M&C cylinder. However, it is important to measure your current cylinder correctly.
With below roadmap Prevents you from choosing the wrong size and ensures that your cylinder lock is safe and fits properly.

Step 1 – Remove the cylinder from the door

Open the door and loosen the mounting screw (on the side of the door).
Insert the key into the cylinder and turn it slightly until you can easily slide the cylinder out of the door.

Step 2 – Measure from the center of the screw hole

Meet now from the center of the screw hole:

  • to within (side of the house)
  • to Outside (side of the street)

A common size is 30 / 30 mm.
The total length of the cylinder is then 60 mm.

Step 3 – Take into account M&C sizes (+2 mm)

The cylinders of M&C are 2 mm longer than standard cylinders, due to the extra strong steel bridge.

Example of standard door:
Do you measure 30/30 mm?
Then you choose at M&C before and after, 32/32 mm (65 mm total).
This size almost always fits standard doors of 38–42 mm thick.

Step 4 – Check the outside of the door

In case of unequal sizes, such as 30 / 45 mm, it is important to check whether the cylinder protrudes on the outside.

  • Insert the cylinder maximum 1–3 mm out? → choose 32 / 47 mm
  • Does the cylinder protrude further from the fitting? → choose 32 / 42 mm

Note: on the outside a cylinder may never exceed 3 mm to stick out.
On the inside, further protruding is no problem.
